One-car accident takes man's life

The Southington Police Department's accident investigation team is investigating a fatal accident that occurred yesterday, July 30, on County Road.
At approximately 4:07 p.m., police received a call that a vehicle had struck a tree on the property of 86 County Road. Officers found that this was a one-vehicle accident with one occupant. The driver had sustained major injuries and was transported to St Mary's Hospital in Waterbury by American Medical Response ambulance service. Police were notified shortly afterward that the driver had died at the hospital.
The deceased has been identified as Robert Lussier age 70, of 43 Academy St Southington.
The preliminary investigation revealed that the driver had traveled south on County Road, crossed over the road in an easterly direction and then struck the tree. The vehicle is a 1991 Oldsmobile Cutlass Supreme.
